LRWRA is up-to-date on all National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits and meets all federal regulatory limits in our reclaimed (finished) water that’s released into the Arkansas River. The water we release is at least seven times cleaner than the water in the Arkansas River. As part of NPDES permits, we comply with daily, weekly and monthly regulatory requirements. NPDES is a federal program which is overseen locally by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). As the largest utility in Arkansas, we work closely with ADEQ to ensure regulatory excellence. With capital improvement projects like "Project Renew" we are investing millions of dollars into our infrastructure to ensure great service today, as well as for future generations. LRWRA has created this dashboard to share the results of the rate payers investment in the performance of its water reclamation system during wet weather events.
LRWRA, on behalf of its rate payers has invested nearly $500 million in water reclamation infrastructure in order to protect the health and environment of Little Rock. By 2024, the goal of the program is to mitigate back-ups and overflows for an up to a 2-year rainfall event. This level of performance meets the expectations of our rate payers and the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.
LRWRA has developed this automated dashboard to monitor the performance of the water reclamation system. On the map you will see rain gauges located throughout the city. Once a rain gauge hits a 2-year event, that portion of the map will turn blue. After extensive field investigations by LRWRA staff, all overflow locations are mapped. Please note that every overflow site is cleaned by LRWRA staff.
